i seem to remember the major problems with taking portraits of my last three 3-month-olds being limited to the occasional rolling over on one’s back and looking confused until righted. trogdor, on the other hand, spent the entire photo shoot busying himself with trying to get his little butt the heck out of the frame. he can roll back and forth, but wiggle and flail and plant his forehead for leverage as he might, he can’t seem to move forward. which eventually pisses him off. so most of the 156 frames i took look something like this.

PositiveRoleModel looked at that last one and said, “yep… that’s pretty much what i looked like as a baby. that’s a loser face right there!” apparently, he was a pain in the ass, too.
though he was not the least bit interested in holding still and smiling, i did manage to get exactly 8 pictures where he is looking at least in the general direction of the camera with a reasonably pleasant expression on his face, suitable for mantlepiece frames and wallet presentations… those being more about conforming to a cultural norm than accurately representing the actual child.
